Agassiz Recreational Trail

Twin Valley to Fertile

The most scenic parts of the trail are from Twin Valley North to Fertile.
Decent tree shade with some scenic bridges and river views.
Keeps away from the Hwy more than the rest of the trail

There are so many more opportunities, would be nice to know who runs this program.

Agassiz Recreational Trail

Fertile to Twin Valley

I Biked the trail from Fertile to Twin Valley June 14th 2024. It is a very nice peaceful ride but be ready for your legs to burn. The surface was loose and sandy in a majority of spots. If the path had a harder pack surface like crushed limestone or like surface this would make for a great trail system that could extend as far north as Crookston.

Heart of the Lakes Trail

close to Hwy

We didn’t ride too far as wind was kicking our butts. Review is for the eastern part of the trail. The Perham & Macdonald lake sections. The trail is very smooth and you do go by some lakes. But no tree cover so you are really exposed to the wind. The entire trail is close to the highway sometimes only a few feet. With so many other beautiful trails in MN will not be back to this one. I will take a few bumps on the trail to have some tree cover and peaceful atmosphere.

Watch out for rough spots

We started in Bemidji with the intent to ride to Hackensack on road bikes. Hit a large bump just south of Laporte (going 18-19 mph). Ended up with a broken collar bone and fractured elbow in two places. Still a great trail.

Diamond in the rough

Trail needs some tlc—new paving and not just bandaids. Some of the vistas are truly beautiful and the trail can be fun to ride. Did the entire trail south to north.

Heartland State Trail

A perfect ride

We had a great day on the trail, from Dorset to Nevis. Exactly the type of ride we needed after our other summer activities including walks and swimming. Stopped at the Iron Horse for a late lunch. Met fellow travelers, including a woman doing a 100 mile bike trek!

Lots of inclines…

…but a gorgeous trail. We were headed to the Headwaters, on the bike trail. Just after mile marker 1, we cut our losses, and biked back to the Douglas Lodge, and then made our way to the Headwaters. There are several entrances into the Park, with carting distances to the Headwaters.

OK ride

Today we drove to Alexandria, picked up the trail there and rode east to where it connects with the Lake Wobegon Trail. Again, bumpy ride.

OK ride

First time on this trail. Started from Ashby resort, just east of Ashby, Minnesota and rode west for 8 miles. Like that the trail is wide so you can safely ride next to someone and talk. However, there are stretches that are rough from cracks in pavement and root heaves. Sunny Saturday afternoon and only saw 6 other people of the trail. I did ride over a snake that I didn't see in time.

Itasca Park trail

Was a beautiful trail to ride. Only small amounts of bumps on the asphalt, which were well marked with spray paint. It was riding through the forest and many large old white pines. There were hills but it was fun. At the north end of the trail is the Mississippi Headwaters. As well as a cafe and gift shop which was nice. We unfortunately forgot our wallets - so no ice cream :(. Also the beautiful visitor center on the south end of the trail was really informative. We were quite impressed.
